Many viruses you’ve probably never heard of also contain DNA, such as iridoviruses, baculoviruses, and hepadnaviruses (one of which causes hepatitis B). Some other viruses, such as filoviruses (the most notorious example being HIV-1) and coronaviruses (SARS-CoV), store their genetic information in the form of RNA. There are many similar viruses as well, including the measles virus, mumps virus, Hendra virus, Nipah virus, yellow fever virus, dengue virus, West Nile virus, rabies virus, Machupo virus, Junin virus, Lassa fever virus, chikungunya virus, all hantaviruses, all influenza viruses, and the common cold viruses—their genetic material is all stored in the form of RNA.
