[Answer] Which Has Better Career Prospects: Software Engineering or Control Science and Engineering (Automation)?

As the name suggests, software engineering is purely software-focused. Automation, on the other hand, involves both software and hardware, making it a field that is not as strong in software as computer science, nor as strong in hardware as electronics. At present, the main employment direction for automation majors is still in industry. With the advancement of Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things, job prospects in automation have remained quite good.

Software engineering is more popular at this stage, since the internet is still one of the main directions of global development, and there is still a significant shortage of high-level talent. But it is also a highly competitive field, where only the best tend to stand out. If you cannot keep improving and developing quickly, and end up as just another low-level IT worker, your future prospects may not be especially bright either.

Personally, I lean more toward software engineering. However, I also think automation is actually quite good. Based on my own experience, it is no worse than many other majors.
