The Automation major generally refers to automation in the traditional sense. In terms of coursework, it sits somewhere between electronics and computer science, though overall it leans a bit more toward computing, balancing both software and hardware.

Electrical Engineering and Automation is essentially the Electrical Engineering major. Its curriculum mainly focuses on power systems, high- and low-voltage electrical apparatus, and similar subjects. The addition of “automation” was partly a matter of following trends at the time, but there are indeed some automation-related courses connected to electric power systems and electrical engineering, such as power system relay protection and supervisory remote control.
