[Answer] After Episode 4, how should the writers save Game of Thrones Season 8?

I think it’s already a good thing that we got to see Season 8 at all. By the time George R. R. Martin finishes the books—if that even happens—the actors will probably be in their forties or fifties, and there’s no way they could all be brought back to perform everything again scene by scene. And if the show had simply gone on indefinite hiatus at the height of its popularity to wait for him, what viewers would have been left with might only have been endless speculation and regret.

As things stand now, no matter what, at least the story kept moving forward. Given how steady and widespread everyone’s expectations were, it needed some kind of ending to bring closure and ease the disappointment people had been carrying. The production team has already done its best. Sometimes I even suspect that Martin may be unable to continue not just because of time, but because the groundwork he laid earlier created too many holes, too deep to fill. If that’s really the case, then the screenwriters have probably already exhausted every possible effort to give everyone a reasonably satisfying ending.
