[Answer] What Team Management Lessons Can We Learn from Yao Ming, as Basketball Association Chairman, Taking Responsibility After the Men’s Team’s Defeat?

Watching the interview on site, it almost felt as if, for a brief moment, we had been transported back to the years when Yao Ming could still play. Faced with pressing and aggressive questions, it seemed on the surface that Yao was merely giving the reporters the answer they were eager to hear. But if you look at Yao’s entire career, the reporters were not really any more tricky or sharp than they were back then. Perhaps they were simply giving him an opportunity to speak his mind.

I don’t know whether Chairman Yao, off the court, felt that sense of frustration—of caring deeply yet feeling powerless, of wishing he could step in personally. At least, as a viewer, that was certainly what I hoped for. But even if Yao could still take the court, even if he could still single-handedly turn the tide, what would that really change?

What the Chinese team lacks is Yao Ming—but not only on the court. Whether Chairman Yao, off the court, can truly lead the Chinese team to a turnaround is something that remains to be seen.
