Electricians and the Electrical Engineering and Automation major are not exactly the same thing. In the narrower sense, an electrician generally does not need a very high level of formal education. With professional training and the relevant national certification, one can qualify fairly easily. Broadly speaking, this role is usually considered on-site implementation work, similar to fitters or machinists, just in a different trade.
Graduates in Electrical Engineering and Automation, if classified according to the power system, can work in power plants—ideally at one of the major power generation groups—doing technical operations and maintenance, equipment management, engineering implementation, and related work. They can also work in transmission and distribution systems, such as State Grid or China Southern Power Grid, handling transmission- and distribution-related jobs. They may also work in factories or end-user organizations in charge of electrical departments, which is closer to the narrower definition of an electrician.
If classified by upstream and downstream industry relationships, they can also work for power equipment manufacturers, power equipment distributors, design and research institutes (industrial or civil power distribution), and electrical construction companies. Of course, if they have the academic background and interest in research, they can also go into universities or research institutes.
