Intelligent lighting is part of a broader smart energy system. From a technical perspective, there are three layers through which intelligent lighting functions can be realized.

The first layer is the power supply layer. The source of electrical power for intelligent lighting is very important. Whether it uses conventional grid electricity or nearby solar and wind energy, as in smart streetlights, constitutes the first functional layer of intelligent lighting. Of course, for indoor applications, photovoltaic conditions are generally unavailable, but wiring is relatively convenient, so most systems still use conventional electricity.

The second layer is the electrical device layer. Whether the light bulbs used are energy-efficient products, or more advanced still, whether they support Doppler-effect dimming, to some extent determines the level of intelligence and energy savings in the lighting system.

The third layer is the sensing and control layer, which is the key to intelligent lighting. Whether the controller supports remote communication, whether the backend has machine learning and intelligent light-control systems, and whether the sensors can return reliable data—this part is the core of intelligent lighting.
