[Answer] What’s It Like to Have a Username Collision?

This reminds me of an old story. Back when I was in school, I used to hang out a lot on the Love board on SMTH. The moderator’s ID was “cjmm,” and people said she was a girl; the ID was supposedly short for “pure and innocent beauty.”

Then one day, someone with the ID “cjmmc” came on and made a post. Everyone assumed he must be secretly in love with the moderator, so people started posting about it one after another. The guy got so overwhelmed by all the questions that he finally blurted out, “My ID really has nothing to do with her — mine stands for ‘Super Caterpillar.’”

Everyone burst out laughing. Just one tiny difference, yet what a world of misunderstanding.
