At the undergraduate level, the difference between these two directions is usually not that large. But based on your own situation, it would help to think about your general future plans—such as studying abroad, going to graduate school, or entering the workforce.

If you want to study abroad, Measurement and Control may be relatively better, because Automation is not an especially strong field for that path. For graduate study or employment, the two are somewhat closer. For female students, Measurement and Control may have a slight edge. I would suggest avoiding too much work that is overly focused on heavy engineering implementation. Speaking only from a practical perspective for women, if much of the work needs to be done on construction sites that do not even have women’s restrooms, that can create a lot of inconvenience.

There is also another angle to consider: which direction at your school is stronger in terms of research and faculty. That should also be part of your decision.
