That depends on what kind of sage you want to become. For a Confucian sage, of course you would study the Confucian classics; for a Christian one, you would start with the Bible. But personally, I feel the latter is much harder and the chances are rather slim. Besides, most sages were self-taught anyway. From a professional standpoint, the best time to be born to become a sage was probably somewhere between one thousand and two thousand years ago.
