Unless your job is purely about drawing interfaces, then yes—you should definitely learn TypeScript. The three core technologies of front-end development—CSS, HTML, and JavaScript—are basically indispensable skills for every front-end engineer. There is no need to say much more about how important these three are, so let’s focus instead on why TypeScript is worth learning.

JavaScript has many inherent shortcomings—anyone who does development knows this. That is why the relevant standards organizations have been updating and improving the language generation after generation. However, because these standards bodies have to balance many different interests as well as historical baggage, they cannot move too aggressively. Improvements have to happen gradually, step by step.

By contrast, TypeScript, led by Microsoft, does not carry the same historical burden. It can move forward more boldly and evolve much faster. In that sense, this language feels more like a representation of the future.
