My original major was not electrical engineering, but later I started doing work that was closely related to it. I’ve read quite a few books, and personally I think two of them are especially good.

One is Factory Power Supply. It is a textbook used by many schools in China, and it gives a relatively simple and clear introduction to distribution systems and electrical components.

Another very good one is Electric Machines, Drives, and Power Systems. This is a translated book. It starts from the basics and gradually goes deeper, covering the subject quite comprehensively. Overall, the theoretical knowledge is explained in a way that is fairly easy to understand, and the presentation is very clear. I highly recommend it.

For reference, Industrial and Civil Power Distribution Design Manual and Steel Enterprise Power Design Manual are both essential desk references.

Of course, the books above are mainly focused on practical application. If you want to gain a deeper understanding, then foundational subjects such as higher mathematics and circuit theory are also indispensable. If possible, it’s still necessary to strengthen your theoretical foundation, which is very helpful for improving overall comprehension.
