[Answer] If a TV Drama Were Made About Su Shi, Who Would You Want to Play Him?
If I had to name a real actor who has actually played historical or similar roles before, and whom I personally think would be a good choice, I’d pick Bobby Au-yeung.
Among the roles he has played, there are a few in which he feels somewhat spiritually similar already. Personally, I imagine Su Dongpo—the man behind the line about “eating three hundred lychees a day”—would not have been especially gaunt or ascetic-looking. In that sense, Bobby Au-yeung’s chubby, genial appearance carries a bit more of Su Dongpo’s charm.
And the line “At night I drink at Dongpo, waking only to get drunk again; when I return, it seems already the third watch of the night” conveys a kind of carefree humor. That feeling also fits rather well with the relaxed, witty presence Bobby Au-yeung often brings to his performances.
So he gets my vote.
