Marriage and entrepreneurship both come with a complicated mix of feelings, and only the people involved truly know whether the water is warm or cold. Even if something is announced on WeChat Moments, the audience should presumably be limited to a relatively small circle. But once it is spread widely, whether intentionally or passively (?), then its purpose may have little to do with either marriage or entrepreneurship, and much more to do with a certain kind of publicity stunt.

In today’s attention economy, gaining public attention through collaboration may be seen by some as acceptable and by others as contemptible. But once it triggers widespread social attention, discussion, and criticism, the goal of the person releasing the news has already been achieved. Discussion itself becomes part of the traffic, and traffic is converted into enormous economic value. Meanwhile, the public’s attention is drawn to trivial gossip, leaving them unable to focus on matters that are more important and more urgent.

This is a distorted state of affairs that ought to be corrected. But as for how to correct it, that is something those in power need to seriously think through.
