To some extent, computers and smartphones have become necessities in the internet age. To keep up with the times, my answer is yes—absolutely. College is not only about learning specialized knowledge; it is also a necessary stage of preparation for entering society. Being able to use digital tools is an essential requirement.

Some people say that computers are full of mixed and messy content, with plenty of games and harmful information. But that problem has always existed, at any time. Therefore, what matters most is what you use a computer for. This can be divided into several levels.

1. Basic internet use: socializing, browsing information, watching videos, and playing games. At present, smartphones can basically do all of these as well. In essence, these functions are only part of the most basic life skills and everyday life, so they should not be overdone.

2. Office work, homework, and attending classes for study. This is an extension of the previous stage—from general use to a stage where a computer becomes necessary for completing certain digital tasks. Only from this stage onward does owning a computer really become meaningful, and it also starts to provide useful training.

3. Using specialized software tools. Graphic design software, 3D modeling software, professional simulation tools, computational software, and so on—these profession-related tools are indispensable to a certain extent. If you are studying one of these majors, then a computer is essential and highly valuable.

4. Software development. At this level, there is hardly any need for explanation: the computer is the tool you rely on to make a living—it is a productivity tool.
