You’re only a freshman, so your core major courses probably haven’t really started yet. It’s normal not to understand much at this stage. Just don’t wait until senior year to ask this question.

That said, as a computer science student, it is worth pushing yourself a bit and actively building up your professional knowledge. If you have extra capacity beyond your regular coursework, you might consider taking one or two programming courses on MOOC platforms or through training institutions. It can only help.
