[Answer] How to Transfer from Automation to Computer Science at Jilin University?

I’m not very familiar with the departments at your university, but you could compare the differences between the undergraduate curricula in computer science and automation. At our school, both Automation and Computer Science are in the School of Information. I majored in Automation, but I’ve always been very interested in computer science as well. Based on my personal impression—since it’s obviously impossible to study in both departments, I can only speak from a subjective perspective—the foundational undergraduate courses in Automation and Computer Science overlap quite a lot. In other words, the two disciplines share a fair amount in common.

Automation itself is also quite a versatile major, and the areas you’re interested in are usually covered in the Automation department as well. So if we look purely at the major itself, my personal feeling is that the differences are fairly limited at the undergraduate level. However, if your real interest is genuinely in computer science, and your school has a mechanism for changing majors, then I think making the switch might leave you with fewer regrets in the future. Also, if you’re considering studying abroad, Computer Science may have a slight advantage over Automation.
