[Answer] Friends studying computer science, I’m a sophomore. We’re all in the broader computer-related track for now, and now it’s time to choose a specialization. Should I pick Software Engineering or Network Engineering?

I’m not sure how your university structures its specializations, but in general, Software Engineering seems like the more worthwhile option.

That said, from a broader life-values perspective, things like making money quickly or avoiding all kinds of hardship are not really determined by the major itself. As far as I know, there are probably only one or two kinds of jobs where you can make money while barely doing anything. In most other jobs where you’re essentially selling your labor, it’s pretty hard to earn money quickly without also working very hard.

Also, regarding the idea that work gets easier as you get older, I think that either comes from looking at things from a teacher’s perspective, or from a misunderstanding, or from taking remarks out of context. At least for now, jobs that get easier the older you are will probably only become harder and harder to find.
